Muse is used to treat erectile dysfunction and impotence by helping to maintain an erection when you have insufficient PGE1.

This treatment comes in the form of a urethral applicator that is inserted into the penis to help with erectile dysfunction. The applicator contains alprostadil, this is identical to the substance prostaglandin E1, which naturally occurs in the body. The applicator works to deliver the alprostadil into the penis which then widens the blood vessels and increases blood flow; usually working within 10-15 minutes of application. It is advised not to use Muse if you are currently experiencing any of the following,

  • Allergic to alprostadil
  • If your penis is deformed
  • If you have a penile disease
  • If you are experiencing inflammation to either the penis or the urethra
  • If you have sickle cell anaemia
  • If you have leukaemia
  • If you have multiple myeloma
  • If you have thrombocythemia or polycythaemia
  • If you are susceptible to blood clots in blood vessels
  • If you have a history of long-lasting erections
  • If you have been advised to avoid sexual intercourse for medical reasons

To administer MUSE, remove the protective cover from the MUSE applicator, stretch the penis upward to its full length, and insert the applicator stem into the urethra

The inactive ingredient in MUSE is polyethylene glycol 1450

More common side effects that can be caused by taking Muse include a burning sensation in the urethra and a tender penis. Other likely side effects are as follows,

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Low blood pressure
  • Minor bleeding in the urethra
  • Pain in the testes
  • Burning or itching sensation in partner's vagina
  • Bruised penis
  • Increased erection
  • Peyronie's disease (abnormal curvature, shortening or narrowing of the penis).
There are more uncommon side effects that involve symptoms such as, leg pain, feeling faint, rashes, nausea, a full list of these can be found in the medical leaflet. You should always seek medical advice if you experience symptoms that are a cause for concern.
