Spedra is a tablet that is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It belongs to a group of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5 inhibitors) that work by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps a man get and keep an erection.

What Are Spedra tablets?

Spedra (Avanafil) is one of the latest prescription only medications that are used to treat erectile dysfunction. Spedra is only effective when you are sexually stimulated.

How Does Spedra Work?

Spedra works by increasing the blood flow to the penis. Whilst it can help getting and maintaining an erection, it doesn't have an impact on libido, meaning that sexual stimulation is fundamental for it to work. The effectiveness of any erectile dysfunction drug can vary, therefore, if taking Spedra doesn't work the first time it might work more effectively the next. Doctors advise trying all forms of erectile dysfunction drugs 8 times before giving up.

  • Narrowing arteries to the penis

All Erectile Dysfunction medications should be taken responsibly and you should never exceed the recommended dose. Spedra should not be taken more than once a day and it can only be taken by men aged 18 and over suffering from erectile dysfunction and impotence following an assessment. Always inform your doctor about any underlying medical or allergy conditions you have. Always inform your doctor of any prescription medication you are currently using. Do not take Spedra tablets if you have a liver or kidney disease because you could be at increased risk for developing serious side effects. Do not use Spedra if you have been diagnosed with a cardiac disorder.

Take one tablet of Spedra 30 minutes before sex. The effects of the drug can sometimes be noticed  15 minutes after taking Spedra and can last 4-6 hours. For optimum performance, Spedra should be taken on an empty stomach and you should not drink excessive amounts of alcohol, as it can make the drug ineffective.

The active ingredient in Spedra is avanafil. The inactive ingredients are magnesium stearate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, calcium carbonate, fumaric acid, mannitol, ferric oxide yellow, and low substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose.

Any medication can cause side effects, some being more common than others. Whilst some side effects might disappear with the regular usage of Spedra, others can persist.   • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Nasal congestion
Less common and more serious side effects include:
  • Feeling dizzy
  • Erection that lasts more than 4 hours
  • Sudden vision loss
  • Sudden hearing decrease or loss
