Hayfever, an allergy to pollen, is one of the most common allergies and the number of sufferers is only increasing. Many products are available, ranging from tablets available in most supermarkets to other treatments that can only be obtained with a prescription from a UK Online Pharmacy, such as Pharmacy Direct.

Hayfever often flares up the worst around late March to September, becoming worse in warm, humid or windy weather. This is due to pollen counts being at the highest during this kind of weather. There are many different symptoms of hayfever, below is a list of the common ones:

  • sneezing/coughing

  • Runny or blocked nose

  • Itchy, red or watery eyes

  • Loss of smell

  • Itchy throat, mouth, ears and nose

  • Pain around temples and forehead

  • Earache

  • Headache

  • Feeling tired

Hayfever can last for weeks or months, so finding a suitable treatment for you is advisable. There are a few do’s and don’t when it comes to hayver; you can find our lists of things that will help, and hinder, your hayfever below.

DO:

  • Use Vaseline around your nose to trap the pollen

  • Wear wraparound sunglasses to avoid pollen from getting in your eyes

  • Shower and change clothes after you have been outside

  • Stay indoors whenever you can

  • Keep windows and doors shut as much as possible

  • Vacuum regularly as well as dusting with a damp cloth

  • Buy a pollen filter for the air vent in your car and use a vacuum with a special HEPA filter

DON’T:

  • Cut the grass or walk on grass

  • Spend excessive amounts of time outside

  • Have fresh flowers in the house

  • Smoke or be around smoke (can worsen symptoms)

  • Dry clothes outside

  • Let pets into the house as they carry pollen

As more research is conducted, immunotherapy (also known as desensitisation or hypo-sensitisation) is becoming a more and more popular treatment option. This is because immunotherapy doesn’t just tackle the symptoms of the allergy but also the root cause. Immunotherapy involves slowly introducing the allergen to a patient in increasing doses until the immune system no longer reacts.

Grazax, a tablet only available on prescription, contains an extract of grass pollen that causes the allergic reaction. Grazax is taken by allowing the tablet to dissolve under the tongue for at least 1 minute without swallowing. It is advised that you take the first dose under medical supervision in case of an adverse reaction.

Grazax can be purchased from our Online Chemist UK and can be prescribed to you following a free online doctor prescription consultation.
